We heard from our doctor’s office this morning. The message started out with, “as you recall today would be day 6 of your embryos”. Recall?! Ummm, it’s the only thing we have been thinking about since last Tuesday! That made me laugh! So here it is…
We had 2 embryos that made it past the crucial blastocyst stage!
To think, we started with 12 then 8 then 5 and now 2. What a crazy ride!
What is Blastocyst: Eggs are retrieved from a woman’s ovaries, fertilized with sperm, and an embryo is created. The embryo divides and multiplies its cells over 5 to 6 days to become a blastocyst. Embryos that survive to this stage of development have a high implantation potential once transferred into the uterine cavity. (Source: www.atlantainfertility.com)
Next Step: The 2 embryos will be sent for genetic testing today and we will know the results within a week to 10 business days. Craig and I opted to do the genetic testing. This will give us the best chances for a safe and healthy pregnancy and eliminate the possibility of a miscarriage or birth defects.
I am glad it is Christmas time. This has helped me focus on other things like waiting last minute to buy gifts. So now we wait again…
