With my medication, I had to take everything between a 6:00am – 8:00am window. As long as I took my meds within that time frame, I would be good. So I set my alarm (on repeat for 10 days) at 7:00am.
My first round of shots went eh. I was nervous, struggling to watch the videos to make sure I was doing everything right. My anxiety was high. I didn’t want to mess this up. Before I injected the first shot, I looked up to the ceiling and said a prayer. I talked to all my peeps in heaven and asked them to watch over me and us.
Shot One: The first shot in my routine is Follistim. If I had to pick me least hated shot, this was the one. It’s a pen like shot, where you pull the cap off, put the vial of medicine inside, twist back on, then crank the dial to your dosage. Mine was 225 ml per shot. You then take the fine BD needle, twist it to the top of the pen and start the injection until the dial gets back down to 0.
Shot 2: Menopur – my least favorite shot! This one gave me anxiety.
Step One: Take the 2 vials of medicine and prep them. One is a liquid and the other a powder form.
Step Two: Prep the needle. Take off the originally, bulky needle (not sure what the medical term for it is), then screw on some weird drawing needle thing. From there, you fill the syringe with the liquid (1 ml) then transfer that syringe with the liquid into the powder vial. From there, you have your medicine. You then screw off the weird drawing needle and screw on your actual needle for injection.
Step Three: Find a good spot on your stomach and shoot! Can you see why this was my least favorite?? And it burned when it went into my skin and made me feel a little dizzy afterwards. I laid down for a couple minutes after and it went away. It actually got a lot easier after that first round but still, not fun. Funny story – the first time I injected this one, I didn’t know you were suppose to change the needle (I kept the larger, drawing needle on). I kept poking myself for a couple minutes, panicking it was not going into my skin. I then realized, I needed to switch the needle. Crisis averted!
Along with these 2 shots, I also take a prenatal vitamin, a steroid, and baby aspirin. Don’t worry, there is more fun to come!
